How to fish electrical wire through floor.
For more in depth informatino about running fis.
Have someone at the other end reach through the hole in the drywall grab the fish tape and pull it through with about a foot sticking out of the hole.
Separate the wires within by bending two of them back and leaving one still standing.
Pull the wiring through the wall by reeling in the fish tape bringing it out through the hole for the electrical box.
Tape the end of the fish tape tightly onto the cable with electrical tape.
Now you should be ready to fish the wire.
Grab the wire as it emerges from the hole.
Attach the wire or cable to a fish tape or coat hanger using electrical tape and feed it into the hole until it reaches the opening at the other end.
Even though cables are insulated the high voltage current can interfere with the signal in the low voltage wires.
Fishing the wires through walls.
Make sure the tape is smooth so the cable can slide through the opening.
Run electrical cable through walls and across ceilings without tearing them apart.
If you re working from the attic you can drop a weighted string down wall cavity then attach the wire to the string and pull it through.
Then tightly wrap the electrical wire cable with electrical tape from the point that it is connected to the fish tape to just past where the other wires are bent.
Strip about 6 inches of outer sheathing from one end of the cable then hook the conducting wires and bare copper grounding wire through the loop at the end of the fish tape blade.
It s really tempting to fish low voltage wires like coax and cat 5e through existing holes occupied by electrical cables but don t do it.
Then retract the fish tape to pull the cable through.
This is usually a 2 person task.
Bend the wires over then wrap several loops of electrical tape around the wires and the end of the fish tape.
From the basement or attic push the wire fish tape through the hole you have drilled.
Bend the lone wire through the loop end of the fish tape and twist it so it won t be pulled off.
Carefully extend the fish tape from one opening to the other.
Run the wire or cable to its destination.
Pull an additional 2 to 3 feet.
