When it comes to items made of faux fur there is definitely one hard and fast rule of care.
How to fix faux fur that is matted.
Attach the center to the hood with the safety pins.
Direct a stream of cool air over the faux fur as you brush.
These attachments will help keep your fur in place and centered.
Do not use a hair straightener on it it will melt the fir.
Cut the melted plastic portions out of the fur using thread scissors.
Comb the hair up then cut small portions at a time at the point on the hairs where the melted or burned area starts.
Then use a pet brush to gently brush out the matted area.
Hold a hairbrush in your other hand and gently brush the fur in every direction.
That will help fluff and separate the hairs.
You should never ever put them in a dryer.
Continue brushing and blowing cool air until you untangle and fluff all the fur.
The extreme heat of the dryer melts the synthetic fur of a stuffed animal vest or faux fur hood turning it into a matted mess once you remove it.
After you finish this process you can use a hair blow dryer on very low setting to help dry and smooth out the matted part.
Make sure to get a fur with the button attachments like mine this will save you the step of sewing on button hooks step two.
If it s just matted and clumped you can comb it out it a fine brush like a dog brush that you get from the pet store.
Machine wash your faux fur sparingly just a few times per year as a rule of thumb.
The synthetic material will become brittle and even more matted the fur fibers may even melt.
You do not need to use any additional products on it.
Go slowly and carefully.
Attach the rest of the hook marks with safety pins.
Try to cut just those portions don t worry about making the fur lengths uneven yet.
Sew on your buttons.
To fluff up faux fur that is matted try spraying a bit of hair detangling product on the matted part.
