A chalk line is a very handy piece of kit when marking out on flat surfaces you can pick up a chalk line for less than 5 from most tool shops etc.
How to make a chalk line for flooring.
Snap the chalk line.
Draw the middle of the line away from the wall about an inch and let go.
Set your chalk line on the 1 inch mark at the end of the final board.
Stretch the line to the far end of the course and put it right on the corner of the end of the last piece on the side closest to the wall.
It doesn t matter if the wall isn t straight they rarely are.
Use your finger to hold the line down in the middle of the run.
Line up the front part of the tongue to the line and your row will be straight.
What matters is the flooring being straight.

Make sure both ends of your line are held up to the wall in the right locations.
Pull the line very taut and the hold the line down on the mark with one hand.

If the wall is too long to snap the chalk easily kneel by the midpoint of the line and press it down to the floor with one hand.
Snap the chalk line leaving a straight chalk mark on the subfloor.
Hook your chalk line over the nail and run the line out to the other end s mark.
Reach out with your other hand and lift up the chalk line about 10 to 12 inches from the floor pulling straight up then release the line so it snaps down onto the floor creating a crisp straight line.
Once they re in place you can complete the process by snapping the line.
Hold or secure the chalk line at the end point of the line.
This will snap the taut line against the wall leaving a chalk marking.
Snap the line and now you have a straight line to line the flooring up to.
